This top started as a patternmaking excise based on my great-grandmother's graduation dress - with yoke, sleeve, and back tie being one pattern piece. The buckle is authentic 1930's carved bakelite.

The pants grew from her riding pants; rather than copy the pattern, I looked at them for their shape and softened them to release the intensity the original pants held. Inspired by all the buttons and fastenings on the originals, the closure up the left leg causes you to take time putting them on, looping each loop through the other.
